Fresh or frozen: which is right for your business?

30 July 2026 · 3 min read

Both have a place in the cold chain. Here is how to choose based on shelf life, cost and how you sell.

Fresh produce sells on appearance and taste, but its shelf life is short. Frozen produce lasts far longer and is easier to store and ship in bulk.

Choose fresh when

  • You sell directly to consumers who buy on look and freshness.
  • You can turn stock over quickly.
  • Your route to market is short and well cooled.

Choose frozen when

  • You need steady supply all year round.
  • You supply food manufacturers, caterers or restaurants.
  • You want less waste and longer storage.

Many of our customers buy both. Tell us how you sell and we will suggest the right mix.
